Through God’s divine leading over many months, ORC began its most recent project in partnership with Elohim School in Arequipa, Peru in February 2008. Approximately 130 children (Preschool — 6th grade) and 8 teachers make up this small, Christian school situated in the impoverished mountains in the south of Peru where there is currently no church. It is remarkable to see the service and sacrifice these teachers endure for the sake of sharing the good news of Christ with the children and their community.
ORC is partnering with Elohim to ensure nutritious food, a good education to help these children's future potential, spiritual growth and other benefits as the project grows.
A great majority of the children in this community are abused, lacking nutritious food, potable water, clothing, and other necessities. Many of them come from families where there is domestic violence, alcoholism, and unemployment. Colegio Elohim serves as a beacon of light in the lives of many children, who can experience the love of God through their dedicated teachers. Children are learning about the Bible, and they are being discipled in the ways of Christ. Several of the children have given their lives to Christ.
ORC believes deeply in the value and importance of these selfless teachers and servants of God, and as such we are doing what we can to help ensure that Colegio Elohim retains them. We have begun a program where you can Sponsor a Teacher (more info). Funds given to sponsor the teachers at Elohim Christian School are used to help pay the salaries for these dedicated servants who are willing to teach and minister where others are not willing to go. Even so, their financial compensation is far below that of the average public school teacher in Peru, yet they truly are anticipating the greater reward.
